Kevin Tompkins, violin
Recently appointed Assistant Principal Second Violin of the Omaha Symphony, Kevin Tompkins received his Master of Music degree from the Cleveland Institute of Music, where he studied with William Preucil and Stephen Rose. While in Cleveland, Tompkins also pursued a course of study in historical performance practice, culminating in an Early Music Certificate from Case Western Reserve University. He received his Bachelor of Music degree with High Distinction from the Eastman School of Music, where his primary teachers were Charles Castleman and Juliana Athayde. Tompkins has had the privilege of participating in several prestigious music festivals including Spoleto Festival USA, Aspen Music Festival (where he studied with Dallas Symphony concertmaster Alexander Kerr), Lucerne Festival Academy, Brevard Music Center, National Repertory Orchestra, Colorado College Music Festival, Round Top Festival-Institute, and the Castleman Quartet Programs. He has previously performed with the orchestras of Rochester, Akron, Canton, Erie, and the Breckenridge Music Festival. Since moving to Omaha, Tompkins has appeared on the Omaha Chamber Music Society’s Summer Concert Series and the Vesper Concerts series at Presbyterian Church of the Cross.
