Maria Crosby, cello

Maria Crosby was born into a musically-inclined family. With ardent classical music enthusiasts for parents, and five string-playing siblings, she was immersed from birth in the works of Bach, Mozart, Beethoven, Schubert, Brahms, and Bruckner, which indelibly impressed her imagination from a very young age. Ms. Crosby began studying the cello at the age of six in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. She continued her private studies under the tutelage of Allison Eldredge at the Preparatory Division of the New England Conservatory in Boston, Massachusetts, and went on to study in the studios of Stephen Balderston and Tanya Carey at DePaul University in Chicago, where she completed her undergraduate studies in cello performance in 2007. Graduate school took her to the west coast, where she attended the Thornton School of Music at the University of Southern California in Los Angeles. She studied there under Peter Stumpf and completed her Masters Degree in cello performance in 2010. In the last five years, Ms. Crosby has been active as both an orchestral and chamber musician. She has performed on stages across the USA, Canada, Germany, France, Lithuania, Armenia, Greece, Russia, Japan and Brazil, and has participated in a variety of orchestral and chamber music festivals, including the Aegean Verdi Festival, the Schleswig Holstein Musik Festival, the Pacific Music Festival, the Banff Chamber Music Residency, the Recontres franco-americaines de Musique de Chambre and the Pine Mountain Music Festival. Ms. Crosby joins the Kansas City Symphony for the start of their 2012-2013 Season.
