Amy Simsviolin

Los Angeles native Amy Sims is a busy freelance Classical and Baroque violinist living in Boston, collaborating with musicians from the region in a wide range of musical genres, from intimate Baroque chamber ensembles and string quartets to large ensembles such as Boston Philharmonic and Rhode Island Philharmonic Orchestra. She performs and records with Boston Modern Orchestra Project (BMOP), Odyssey Opera, and Boston Baroque and is a contracted member of the symphonies of Springfield (Massachusetts) and Portland (Maine). In addition to her various affiliations in New England, Amy is a recent recruit of the Atlantic Classical Orchestra of West Palm Beach (Florida), where she commutes to perform as assistant concertmaster. Each August Amy returns to the Peninsula Music Festival Orchestra in Door County, Wisconsin, as its assistant concertmaster.

Before venturing to New England, Amy was the concertmaster of the Omaha Symphony from 2000-10. With bachelor and master degrees in violin performance from the University of Southern California Thornton School of Music, where she studied with Eudice Shapiro, Amy held the position of principal second violin of the Pacific Symphony Orchestra from 1994 to 2000; she also freelanced on the west coast, performing and recording newly commissioned works with Southwest Chamber Music and participating in studio recordings for major motion picture soundtracks and television commercials.
