Omaha Chamber Music Society
Education & Outreach
The Omaha Chamber Music Society believes that chamber music is a unique form of communication and expression, and that it has much to offer to the community. OCMS is dedicated to bringing chamber music to the community through education and outreach efforts.
OCMS is in the fourth year of an exciting collaboration with Omaha Public Schools, with plans to offer chamber music coaching to over 80 middle school students at McMillan Magnet Center and Bryan Middle School. In addition to its work with Omaha Public Schools, OCMS and the Omaha Area Youth Orchestras have formed a collaboration offering coaching and performance opportunities to talented high school musicians at Millard North and Millard West High Schools.
The Omaha Chamber Music Society has active outreach efforts in the health care community. During the 2012-2013 season, OCMS musicians will perform five times on the University of Nebraska Medical Center's Music as Medicine series. OCMS also has an ongoing collaboration with the Hospice House to bring live music to the residents and their loved ones, offering comfort and solace during their time of need. During November, the Omaha Chamber Music Society collaborated with the Omaha Children's Museum to present Tough Turkey in the Big City, a family-friendly chamber music performance that used music and narration to introduce over 300 young people and their families to classical music. This fun and unique performance had children singing, dancing and laughing along with the music. Then, on Thanksgiving Day, KVNO spread the fun even further by broadcasting a recording of the live performance.
Other chamber music performances are in the works for the coming year, so check back often to see what is new.
